glassses or contacts

With Jack on this one, been sailing in one a days for over 10 years and have never lost one! just remeber to squint thorough heavy spray and shut your eyes for head under dips.  Never carried a spare set, cant imagine messing about trying to get one in whilst on a dinghy.  Mind you i can't drive in lenses as i have a 'tight eye reflex' whatever that is, means my eyes go dry and itchy if i wear lenses in cars or air conditioned environments.

I am a contact wearer and I hardly ever lose lenses - same for my crew. I always keep a spare pair in my bag though just in case. Instinctively, you shut your eyes when you fall in.

Oh well.

Normal glasses for rigging etc .. Shades for everything else. I can see boats, and  make out sail numbers at closer distances ( Where it matters ... )

I havn't gone prescription with shades yet, as the floaty Gill ones do me fine. On;y wear them some of the time as well .. Steady + breezy they go on. As soon as it gets gusty, they come off ( Unless I am going downwind into the sun! )

As above, you can get a neporene strap, or go to an opticians, they can do elasticated ones for about £2 or £3. I used one of those for about a year. Good stuff.

Personally found it more comfortable than a neoprene strap, but thats personal opinion at the end of the day.

On dry land I mostly wear glasses. In the boat contacts as glasses don't float. I always keep spares though as a hosing reach can end up with water under the contacts and then you cannot see anything. Quite a few times I have though I have lost one only with some judicious blinking to suddenly restore my sight..
