Just got back from Weymouth last night, EPIC weekend! 20kts+ on Saturday, grey and raining (but who cares), 18-20kts Sunday and sunshine (doesn't get any better than that). 3rd rig both days, and it was getting towards 4th rig at times. I'm sat here with sunburn, a big bruise on my ankle, my ribs on both side really hurting, and a big smile on my face. That was some of the best racing I've done in the UK in the past couple of years. Oh, and it helps that we won the Asymmetric class too |

Tiger Trophy was all about sunday. Saturday consisted of a 2 hourt on-the-water postponement, and two VERY light races. Sunday dawned however, and we had sunshine and 20-25 knots for the most part, dropped of to about 12 towards the end of the race, doing most of the length of the lake downwind, flat out made the whole weekend worthwhile, reminded me why we go sailing, perfect! even managed to scrabble a top 10 finish in the pursuit race despite a swim on the first lap, not bad for two crews in a boat |

It used to be the same in our game, they're so used to gusty shifty conditions their board/boat handling and response time has to be like lightning quick. Only thing that stops pond sailors in their tracks is a massive shore dump and even bigger scarier things out back! ![]() Sorry we missed your banjo's, my man's still not well enough.. |

Mike, you could try introducing a thimble to ease the bending of the line around the shackle and also limit wear.

Oh yes, and I actually went sailing. 2 races. Wind all over the place in strength (forces 1 to 4) and direction (wandered around 120 degrees or so along the way). And it rained...a lot... I discovered I am nowhere near where I need to be fitnesswise, and the only thing worse than getting to the 'windward' mark to find a dead run awaiting you, is getting to a reach to find it's beam to close when you want beam to broad... Oh yes, and there was weed. lots of weed...

Any chance you can say where you were out - it would be
nice to compare the conditions in different parts of the country. For instance it was windy for me on the Medway - it would be interesting to know where Rockhopper and his "flat calm" was. |

Incidentaly, I said it was windy on the Medway but I didn't
realise it was quite so windy. The records show it was 35mph in the gusts. This difficulty in realising the wind strength is something I've noticed with high performance boats. Upwind it always feels windy since we are probably doing 8Knots into a wind of 8Knots giving an apparent wind of 16 even on light days. Downwind of course we always sail at an angle which gets the crew out on the wire so its going to be much the same apparent wind whether we've got 10mph or 20mph. |
