It wasn't too bad but I don't feel the need to do it again in a dinghy.
I caught up to my mate Valentin Nedalkov in a laser before yarmouth, he'd started some time before me. An RS400 from the island caught up to me round St Cats, they had started at 0730 with the big monos! I pulled away again after they doused the kite after St Cats. They all pulled back to me at Bembridge parking lot but both elected to miss out the bouy due to the huge raft. I figured I wanted to sail the course since I'd got that far, so snuck round. I think I re-overtook Val some point around Ryde / the Forts but didn't see him after that, or the 400. I may have got them too since there was a massive penalty for not short tacking up ryde sands and I didn't see them doing that.

you did a good job and annoyed the rest of us going into the shallows at ryde.

still had an amazing day. think we toped our boat speed out at 15.7 knots which wasnt to bad.

if you saw a topless guy trimming a massive white kite on a small blue boat that was me

A chap in Brazil is making a NS14, and has sent me photo's of another design project of his.  It is a home build boat (free plans!), like an Optimist for adults.  I think it looks pretty cool.

I grant you its not exactly an RS100, but its a lot better looking than most free design home build stuff, I reckon.  Kicker angle looks a bit hopeful though!

The space to build my own boat.  That would be heaven.

Intriguing. The reason big wide-arsed yachts have twin rudders is that they sail highly-heeled, and the windward one will often be more-or-less out of the water. Even a central one would be highly ventilated. It means the one in the water will be pretty much vertical. That boat doesn't look wide enough, and the racks not highly angled enough, to make that work- in this shot wouldn't it be more efficient to get the weight out and get the rig vertical?

Quite. Yachts, cats and american lake racing Scows sail up on their ear as a compromise between rig efficiency, hydrodynamic efficiency and righting moment. The twin rudder on this seems to miss the point spectacularly.

You'd think the wetted area would be rather large if sailed flat, so presumably its intended to be sailed heeled like the Scows... it looks to me as if the wings are angled up further than an 18, which would explain that. Presumably the design heel angle matches the angle of the rudders and daggerboards.
