I'm a club sailor and not a rockstar.

Actually, I ended up buying the boat after close watching, sailing and taking photographs of the final version of the boat (the blue foredecked one in my pictures). I would like to remember everyone to try a boat in its final stage prior to bashing or exalting her. Earning less than 1.000 GBP(in Euros equivalent) in a month makes me a little over-suspicious about throwing a lot of money to manufacturers, but since I need a singlehander NOW and putting myself in the lightweight class of sailors the choices were more than restricted to me: the D-One is a logical choice and fit perfectly to my needs. I'm certainly sure that the RS100 will be a good boat and I wish every success to LDC, but I didn't wrote a single word on the relative forum thread just because I'm not interested into a sort of vaporware. They made their product - not ready yet and Devoti made its' - ready to sail. The RS100 is more beautiful for your tastes? Kudos to LDC but I don't agree.

Not at all.

And are you sure that DS hasn't been listening to the same people who sailed the first prototypes of the D-One when they first appeared over a year and half ago?

RS will ensure that this boat is launched internationally, they
will certainly ensure there is fully supported circuit in the UK immediately
and they have a good history of attracting some very competent sailors
into their fleets- and those folks are very, very welcome as they tend have
a fantastic attitude to sharing and helping others, getting involved and
growing the class around them.

Have you noticed that little logo on the sail of the D-One?

Cheers,

I correct you: a boat with an 11m sail area, with adjustable wings, mast step, centreboard point and provision for a weight equalization that puts the competitive range from 70 to 95 Kgs (without splicing the fleet...).

Olympics? Did I wrote "Olympics"?!?

I don't know what the 5-ring champions are saying about the their favourite boats (it's just curious to learn that the best sailor of all times, the Ben Ainslie of yours, is a "Finn-lobbist"...), but I certainly know what the guy in the shoot (born in the land of Albion many years ago) is thinking about the thing he has under his feet.

FYK: the "little logo" on the sail means 91 Melges 24 on the starting line. Add another class to the circuit of 5 national events and 43 regattas and you got the picture...

.........all this thread shows how narrow minded some uk sailors are. I bet you think the sun never sets on the empire eh !

The D-1 looks different, not to everyone's taste, the RS100 won't appeal to some either. Both will be good boats and have good pedigrees.

There are some huge classes ; dinghy, sports boats and others outside the UK.

This thread and forum need to grow up a bit

I guess I'm supposed to be impressed that this in some way means that
it'll be the next big ISAF class, one that the Finn lobby will shoe-horn into
an olympic slot given no other option for self-preservation... guess what,
I'm not impressed, it makes f**k all difference to me what boats are
sailed at olympic level. And at the risk of going off topic, if you ask some
of the olympians over here what their 'off the record' boat of choice
would be for their categories, then you wouldn't be surprised to hear
things would be shaken up quite a bit last time around.

Wow, What is going on here, what's caused all this aggression, ok so you don't like the D-one or the Finn or foreigners, but this thread is about the D-one, Matt has ponied up the money to buy one and you seem intent on belittling him for doing so.

Can't even blame the heat...
2 new boats that hopefully won't vanish without a trace. RS100 would probebly suit me better personally if I ever decided to spend more than 50quid on a boat, but if the D1 gets a European circuit to rival the Finn, then Matt will have spent his money on something pretty special.
The European scene seems fairly conservative compared to the UK, with Olympic classes and long standing one designs still getting huge turnouts. Maybe we could learn from them, and take the best ideas without loosing the things that make UK sailing unique. Abuse doesn't seem the best way of doing this.

Oh, I forgot to mention that one other boat under the Volvo heritage is the
Laser SB3...

Glad to do so:

TT points that with RS you will have a strong, well-organized fleet with lot of events and fun, and certainly will be.

I just want to puntualize that we poor, stupid Deeoners probably we have the same right now thanks to the Volvo sponsorship...
