Rodney Cobb http://www.suntouched.co.uk/devoti-one_suntouched2.htm has a demo boat as he said before,

"No problem everyone is welcome to try the D-One

OH! Did i forget to mention that we have managed to negotiate a special deal for the UK market

Rodney"

No obviously not, but then I wasn't 'invited' to sail it nor I doubt were many others using this Forum.

Yes I can imagine that, it's probably a language thing, I'm not that 'angry' but dont' have a lot of tolerance of
'old technology' which is fairly obvious in the way that boat has been designed. If you want to know more about
me ask Mr Poppi from Thomasoni Topsail or Benni Botsano they'll give you an insight to my technical expertise.

fast and fun , i sailed, it you not!!!! if you do nou understand unstayed rigs because of no experience come to
garda and sail the d one , after you will understand.it is incredible how without sailing the boat you talk like
this ciao aldo , tomorro i post one picture of me sailing the d one and having a lot of fun!!!!!

Well I will thank you, and I was a journalist once upon a time, but not now, nobody is paying me money so I can
remain objective and I have no advertisers pressurising me and this is a free forum which you or your sponsors
are happy to enjoy the free publicity from, the risk of course is that there are folk like me who don't think the
boat is up to much, or it will not suit their particular sailing venue (as is my case). Your man has designed the
boat for people who like sailing the equivalent of a Bugatti, great in its day but long since out moded.

None the less I'm glad you are having Fun, enjoy it, unusual though it is to hear from an Italian who has no flair
for style..

These discussions remind me a lot of the Musto Skiff v Rs700 discussions from some years ago ... many people made their minds up without sailing both boats.

Some people ended up with the wrong boat and ultimatly jumped ship ... and expensive error ...

I suggest that the Rs100 & D1 are more different than the MPS/700 and as such I recommend you try both ... don't buy off other people advise make your own informed decision which means sail BOTH ....

At this point everyone starts to get defensive against boats they have
ordered! I understand all GRF's points, but The D-One is not going to be
heavy. The mechanics of seperate racks and some of the hardware will
add some weight to what is undoubtedly a very light hull. I tend to agree
on kicker, fixed kickers are just two limiting. As for a track, sailed with
one for years. Can be a great help , but in limited conditions. Unstayed
rigs are great and the d-one is probably great on windward leeward
courses. However, unstayed with a kite and no stays presents a proplem
on club courses. You either have a super stiff mast to try and hold the kite
luff and sail tight reaches OR you have some flexibility to provide the
upwind gut response- you cannot have both. The videos clearly show the
luff falling away on the kite as the mast flexes. The RS100 has stays to
prevent this and improve the 'round the bouys performance where most
of us sail. I doubt that either boat will disappoint and the D-one will have
its market and probably prosper at the top end. In the UK and other areas
where are RS are strong, pricing, marketing and the RS brand will make it
successful.

Again, I don't need to hear that it's "terrible" or "fantastic", but want to hear if e.g. it feels 'much more lively/planes earlier/is less stable' than a Finn or Phantom'

it feels very lively and manoeuvrable compared to most single handers because its very light with quite alot of sail area, so it accelerates very well. its also quite short and wide with a fair bit of rocker which makes it feel like you can turn on the spot on the start line, and also makes it very stable simular to the finn. the cost for the hull shape is speed in that its not as fast as a mustoskiff but Luca wanted anyone to be able to sail it.  the hiking position is very good which it needs to be it this type of boat because you will need to hike up and downwind so it needs to be as comfortable as possible, the built quality is very high, I like to see something thats well made. the rig looks great with a sail that fits the mast which most single handers don't, I think upwind the unstayed rig works very well for hiking boats because it depowers as you go over waves. downwind its not optimum but it works well enough to be simular to a RS400 the mast isn't a noodle. being unstayed also helps with capsizing, boats with shrouds tend to round up into the wind and tack as you right them making it harder to get back in.I think Luca has achieved what he set out to do in making a boat that is fun to sail, the best way to see if its for you or not is to have a go and see for your self.

unstayed rig looks too bendy for downwind with a kite.

O.K. To be objective why I wouldn't buy it and i badly need a single
hander right now.

Fixed blade rudder will get jammed with grit and make launching off a
beach a pain and impossible on some occasions.

Ditto Dagger.

Long low boom will dig in exacerbating capsize potential.

Mast too far forward, nose will dig in back of waves.

Old hat styling and controls, kicker? W.T.F.

Traveller? In a single hander Why?

And it looks H    E     A V   Y presumaby launched by crane in Lake Garda
about the only place in the world you could be happy sailing it.

Actually, does it contribute anything to say a boat is beautiful or ugly? That's in the eye of the beholder and we all know what we like (I should hope), so being told it's ugly is just redundant. That's something that irritates me on Top Gear - "this car is ugly in our opinion, so don't buy it" seems to be the message, when people can decide that for themselves just by looking.

Objective info on what it's like to sail compared to other boats is what we need.  Again, I don't need to hear that it's "terrible" or "fantastic", but want to hear if e.g. it feels 'much more lively/planes earlier/is less stable' than a Finn or Phantom'
