It could be said that the "Bringing the fun back into sailing" tagline is pretty
silly; the fun has never gone out of sailing.

Why would we sail the boats we already sail, if it wasn't fun?

Chris, your constant Finn bashing is becoming more boring than ever, and I do not think anyone really is surprised that the Laser Masters attracts more than the Finns.

Your black cat really is blacker than our black cat.

All this to-ing and fro-ing, does anybody know if they have actually
delivered any of these D1's yet?

Ugly it may be, but if they happen to be available for immediate delivery it
might do as a temporary stop gap until the RS gets finished, another
summer is rushing by..

Its not Finn bashing, but it is calling out... The sport suffers too much from people making preposterous claims that don't stand up in the cold light of day, and it can only be a good thing to bring in a dose of reality. And 339 boats for the masters is pretty impressive, so it really doesn't need to have some nonsense claims added onto it...

Thanks Norbert, just confirms, it's not for me that nose is just too low.

Interesting the sail doesn't appear to be sheeted as far in as the centre
line, is that common in Finns?

Funnily enough I like the brutal looks of the D1 over the pretty RS100.

Brookesy, there was no intention of knocking Finns. It was just a
reference to the claim (a few pages back) that there were more Finn
Masters than Laser Masters. As Jim says, it was just a case of trying to be
accurate (as far as the numbers I could find showed).

There's not much doubt (IMHO) that the Finn was one of the five or six
most significant dinghies of the 20th century, and I think you'll find that
any "attacks" from me on the Finn were in reply to "attacks" from
Finnsters on other classes.

PS Thx TT!

its common to single handers,  centred mains are for boats with jibs. if you had the boom cetred on a single sailed boat it would stall. a jib helps keep the flow and you don't want to chock the slot with the main too eased.

because the D1 has a traveller the same as the finn you can adjust the main to the perfect angle for the conditions. in light airs you want the traveller up so you can ease the mainsheet to get twist in the head. in beeze you want the traveller down so you can pull mainsheet tension on without pulling the boom in. in the gusts you can drop the traveller instead of easing the main so you still have a nice sail shape. its alot better to have a traveller but most modern classes have a strop because they are cheaper but they are only in the right position for one condition.

Not as limiting if the strop is adjustable though !!  Also lighter etc...  There are benefits to a traveller but strops can be are much more flexible than might be imagined if you want.   What you cant do is play a strop as you might the traveller in say a Tasar - but strops are not just a low cost alternative.  I suspect the advantage of a traveller will be highter with an unstayed mast and it might even be essential.

On the Blaze we have total freedom over sheeting /strop arrangements.  There are those with adjustable strops, people with two strops (one general and one 'hi-wind where they switch between) and a growong trend to stern sheeting with the sheet either coming off the boom or being led to the front of the cockpit and down.  Each to their own ....
