Hmm I think looking like a skiff is like saying you look like a rent boy.

Isn't there some other less degraded term.

What's wrong with Performance Sailboat or craft.

PSB

All Skiff says to me is slooow in light air and uncontrollable mess in any
decent breeze..

Not that I'd consider such a term for that DV1, that looks like a modern
Morgan in car similes

Sorry should be another thread maybe..

Of course what makes the "Finn is Fastest" thing so amusing is that moderate performance boats like the Finn are actually far more popular than high performance boats, so making crazy exaggerated claims about performance would seem most likely to harm the popularity of one's class...

Although on the other hand maybe what might sell best of all would be medium performance boats that the owners can claim are fast, as far more people like talking about owning high performance boats than will actually ever put their hand in their pocket to buy one. In that respect maybe the Finn people are bang on the mark!

But that's an aside.

I think the best thing Devoti can do with this concept is pimp it up to the max with clear lacquered hull and decks with all the carbon showing through; top spec. everything and make this the absolute dogs b**locks in terms of spec. & finish; they have the skills and knowledge to do that ...

Then they end up with perhaps not the fastest assy single hander but certainly the most flashy ... the wally yacht of single handed dingies ... or the equivalent of a Pinarello bike ... and so on; people will always pay for the best quality ...

I've just read this thread from the beginning again.  Very interesting with the benefit of hindsight!

I think you're quite right Rick... doesn't matter if it's €12 or €14k... it
needs to be the highest-possible spec for its category, something that
will appeal to highest level enthusiast only; then maybe in a few years
after the enormous depreciation, coupled with longevity and quality build
reputation, it will make the boat an interesting proposition to club sailors.

I think it could look the nuts done in full clear carbon with absolute top spec everything; the foils on the boat at the dinghy show looked great.

If it was the most OTT spec. dinghy ever built I can see it getting a certain space in the dinghy world ...

Surely that U.S. boat, what's it called the wooden version of the MPS,
beautiful looking boat Swift Solo? is it called, not exactly a commercial
success though, not showing signs of any great International following.

Might appeal to lead-miners down sizing due to the recession then, as well. Even at, say, £12k it would be cheaper than a SB3.

There was a Merlin with a really pimp clear deck with carbon fibres running through it (Fibre Fusion?).  Looked fab.

I think that is a self build boat though, which is always going to limit its appeal.  Not to mention it looks about as easy to sail a taking a 49er out on your own.
