This boat isn't going to help that problem, as Italian Finn/Star veteran Silvio Santoni so eloquently shows us here....

Perhaps it was claiming that the Porche 911 is the fastest
non-trap single-hander around. We'd know for sure if James
May had used one instead of that Triumph Herald.

Whilst I admire the sentiment, use of metaphor etc, and certainly it is
often the case (in my experience at least..) that less physically attractive
people are easier to love because of sparkling personalities or highly
developed bedroom skills that mitigate their aesthetic shortcomings.

To continue the analogy, and call me or the others here superficial, but
it still holds true that nobody likes to be seen in public with an ugly
heffer. Especially when one is paying money for the privilege!

Anyway function should always lead fashion, but it should be easy
enough to make something easy on the eye within the D-One's
requirements. Racing dinghies are not human, or even animal, so do not
swing from the umbilical noose of their inherted DNA or an
unfortunate fondness for beer and curry.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I reckon it looks highly capable and a great boat
to sail.

So what are you saying then?

If you woke up next to a D-One would you gnaw through your arm rather
than wake it?

Regarding my translation: It is not my personal opinion and may serve as proof you shouldn't believe everything you read in the web... I think it does show a little bit of the "state of mind" and the attitude towards current designs of Devoti's buddies over here, though.

Lukepiewalker, German is my first language, so I guess the German Finn sailors just like their boat more than you do :-)

Contender Master sailors are not representative for 50+ sailors in general so every argument based on this selected group is useless. It only shows that some (can) do. I definitely see the market for a fast non-trapeze singlehander, no matter if people do not like to or cannot trapeze, especially from a boat like a Contender.

Who knows, maybe I will buy an RS100 in the future as well.

You know you might have something there, the German...Erhum... 'peoples car' was designed to float. I presume Mr Ferdinand will have continued this inspired design feature, conjured up by his then leader. Impressively future proofing the 911 for this very situation.

Something like that. Which isn't to say that I wouldn't have had the time of my life and doubtless pick up a few tricks. Just that at least partial inebriation, as well as a dimmer switch turned down very, very low would be needed to make the union a palatable one in the first place.

The name of the 'peoples car' literally translated is the 'strength through joy' car.

Does that make the Finn the 'strength through weight of necessity' boat?

I am starting to think that the devoti might be a bit "mid life crisis" for me, a very well designed mid life crisis I have to admit, with padded seats to nurse the tired backs of its helm who decided the RS 100 looked a bit too wet and uncomfortable.

I am worried that aswell as getting a nosebleed from being so high up on those bench/wings a lot of the sensation of speed would be lost from being so high.

I am still open to the idea if it does sail a lot better than the 100 but cant get over how tubby it looks  which makes it look heavy even though isnt really.

I agree with you that the D-One looks like a real tub whereas the RS100 looks like a skiff.
