It does seem to work well, having said that my crew doesn't seem to have to many issues and the progrip has come off further forward and she uses the evostick underneath, though whether this is due to her sense off balance or not.... Have seen it get trashed quite easily too by catching it with a trapeze hook, but i think the fact that it works the same wet or dry and doesn't sandpaper any skin that comes into contact with it are always a bonus. |

Im sorry but i think i speak for us all here in saying "what?" My previous post was simply advice aimed to stop you from cocking up another batch of the product and therefore filling another topic with the results of your lack of common sense. I seem to remember the last time involved the increasingly popular MPS or should i keep that hushed incase admin catch on.... As the previous two posts have highlighted, Pro Grip is by no means a poor sub standard product and we dont have to bimble with anything. Rounding the corners is not only for aesthetics but jsut makes sense to finish off the application and make it perhaps last longer. I can easily picture the scene of an arrogant stuck up snowboarder rushing the job of applying a stomp pad and not taking into account any adivce from those that have used or been using such products far longer than he has. Hence the pads come off after the first run own the hill and all because he didnt take the time to prep the surface it was applied to. And i think you'll find if you look at footpads on a wind surfer, once theyve been applied in the factory or fitting out shed / whatever, they come with rounded corners......... and i wonder why that would be |

I'll bet you round the corners of sail repair tape before sticking it on your spinnaker (or any other sail for that matter), is it a bad product because of it?
In fact most glues wont work very well on a salt water soaked shiny surface that has had some mclube spilt on it these products must be crap also. No? thought not. Edited by Calum_Reid |

You're all thinking like this because as usual you fly on the defensive.
"Who's this cock telling us when he so obviously knows nothing" Well this "cock" is a consumer and a supplier to consumers in that paralell universe that so wouldn't accept a sub standard product like that pro grip. And what? You think I don't know how to prepare a surface for application of self adhesive when I've been selling and preparing snowboards this past fifteen years? O.K. so I didn't use a hair dryer, but it was sunny and warm when I put this stuff on Saturday afternoon, by noon on Sunday after one race its peeling up at the corners. Sure if they'd been rounded it might have lasted maybe two races and the stuff that's on my kids Bic Open looks very similar and has been used twice so far without coming off. But. It's still crap and is obviously using old technology self adhesive. Things have moved on in the real world since the eighties where most dinghy products still seem to be lurking. It is a waste of however much money I paid for it. I shall experiment with snowboard stomp pads, see how long they last. Pro Grip in Windsurfing? It was a boom grip from the eighties, if its the same stuff then hardly surprising, it came off the booms it was used on back then. The fact you're all defending it shows how locked in this world of "acceptance" of inferior products. And why is it so bad to complain? Or is it simply the wrong person complaining.. whats that phraise again, a good craftsman never blaims the tools... by any chance did you finish in a position that wasnt first in that race? was the musto an inferior product, nope didnt think so just a user related issue or two or three .... theres another term that IT guys sometimes use to define complaints or problems arising "PICNIC" - Problem In Chair Not In Computer... |

On a completely different product .... Came across a Evostick glue called 'Wet Grab' recently in B&Q - claimed all sorts of things can be glued and critically that it can be used on wet surfaces etc. Sounded too good to be true but bought some to try it out.
Anyway the stuff is amazing. It's cures on contact with water, even damp air will do it. We tried gluing a bit of Stainless Steel to a smooth ceramic tile - underwater - to give it a real tough go. It worked. It also allows you to move stuff around for a while unlike impact. The full cure takes several hours but next day the only way we could seperate them was to smash the tile off. It sets to a dense light blue 'rubber' consistency that has just a little give it it - and can therefore survive well in tough environments. I've already used it to repair a partially detached slot sealer in less than ideal circumstances, as on a damp boat - it works well but you need to leave overnight. Have not tried it on a new slot sealer yet but it looks very promising. Anyone else tried it ? Blaze 720 (Might even work on Pro-grip ! ) |

Surely the reason Pro-grip is most popularly sold in sheets (forcing you to think about where and how to apply it) is that it has to fit so many different classes and positions. Wavelength sell sets of pro-grip pre-cut to fit the rails on a Contender (thanks Graham) but I still bought another sheet to fit inside the cockpit for those 'just on the wire' days so I could trapeze from the cockpit floor. I'd say it's much more convenient to cut the stuff to exactly the right shape for you boat and I'd be really annoyed If I'd spent a load of money on some over-marketted product only to find I have to cut a bit off to go around a cleat or whatever. In addition to rounding corners if you stretch and stick insulation tape around the perimeter it hides any inneptitude and keeps it in place even better. I think the Contender is virtually unsailable without pro-grip and probably still have scars from wiping out in my first one that had epoxy/sugar grip on the sides. |
