Transporting a Laser

I've car topped Lasers for thousands of miles on a variety of cars.  2 feet apart is close but as long as you tie the front down to the bumper or towing eye you should be OK.  Its essential you do though as you can get quite a blast of air from trucks as you overtake on the motorway and I'm sure that would simply rip the boat and rack clean off the roof.

2 ft is way too close. If you need to extend the available 'platform' to lay the boat on, you could try securing something like a lightweight ladder to the bars first, then putting the boat on that, deck facing down, on foam padding (the rolls that Millets sell for camping are ideal).

Attach front and rear also as merlin boy says.

You should tie the boat to the front and rear towing eyes as well! If they are peugeot genuine roof brs i think they are ok for 75kgs, so should be plenty for a laser, make sure you pad the bars with pipe insulation to prevent damaging the deck

Does anyone here know of a Laser will fit on the roof bars fitted to a Peugeot 306?

I'm not worried about the weight, the manufactures roof bars seem plenty strong enough, it's just the the roof bars are not that far apart and I'm not sure that they'll offer a big enough "platform" for the boat to rest on securely.
