That says it for itself you sailed a twin trap boat by yourself ! The spice is underpowered and was a flop ! Full stop, I dont want to sound like i'm having a pop at you mate its just saying you were quicker then a musto is a little far fetched, but fairplay you seem to enjoy it allot and thats what really counts isn't it?!

Its underpowered, but then wasn't it intended for complete lightweights anyway?

He was singlehanding it in about 5 knts of breeze, only gusting a little more than that. How many of you regularly singlehand a twin trapeze boat, using all 3 sails?

Anyways .. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

Tried it did it in a boss mate! good fun, little scary and was wet! and that is a proper twin trap boat not a buzz with 2 wires

Careful what you say there.

If it was designed with 2 wires, has 2 wires, and sails as such, does that not count as a "proper" twin trapeze boat? Bit like the I14 ... Thats just a single wire boat, that allows you to have a 2nd wire! ( which 99% of the sailors see as necescary! )

An yes, it may be underpowered ... but it means he can sail it at full power in conditions you are depowering in.

Ha i have heard it all now! 14's did at one point only be a single wire boat, but you must be deluded if you think you can sail one without twin wires now (or you have never seen a current design)  I think you are miss undrstanding my original point anyway Villan, i just said it is higly unlikely that it passed a musto skiff!!  I also put across my point of view of the class that was ths spice, I also said fairplay the main thing is that he enjoys it which is OBVIOUS but i just wish people wouldnt come on here and put silly claims like faster then a musto, and another example in another thread that that NS14 thhing is faster then a 9er upwind!!!

So because the Musto is fast in some peoples hands, and is a new, sparkly design, it means that old boats cant beat it?

Surley, it will also depend on the point of sail, and relative experience of the sailors.

I can VERY WELL believe that the Spice ( with ratface sailing it ) could pace a Musto downwind. 930 to 875 - Its not that big a gap. The Spice would loose out upwind, and catch up on the reaches / downwind.

I beleive that at the NSSA regatta at Farmoor a few months back, the Spice was overtaking the 29ers at times. The RYA's cute little youth boat being beaten? Oh Noes .. Can't have that!!!

Oh .. and I have seen a current design I14 ... Very nice. Looks like it would break the first time it hit the bottom, or got the mast stuck in the mud though.

i admit that the spice is underpowered, but as mentioned the boat is designed for lightweights, which i am. and due to this a boat with more power i would not be able to handle in a decent breeze. not to mention the added complication of racks.

anyway how many of you have actually sailed a spice before? and therefore know what it is like to sail

maybe next time i will take a video camera out on the water with me

Well it must have ben the worst musto sailor in the world then!  Where did the spice finish overall in comparrison to the 29ers? yes i have sailed a spice which is why i commented on it if i hadnt i wouldnt !  I'll tell you what lads if 14's are so sh*te???!!!  Then we will give you a race in the spice, we only sail off 850 so not much difference to the musto you are talking about.  We will even use the small sails as well.

Talk is cheap facts. are facts!

Well, at the Tiger this year, I beat 5 Mustos in my Vareo.

At the Bloody Mary, even though we finished about 20 boats from the back of the fleet, almost every time I looked back ( Right up until the final leg! ) there was at least one Musto behind us.

And we were in a Laser 2000.

Spice was very low down the fleet by the end of the regatta ... Probably had something to do with the breeze being turned on. They had sailed the boat once before the event .. For about 2 hours ... On a windless Wednesday evening.
