was out in chichester harbour today and yesterday...

was windy enough to be twin wiring with the kite up and boy was it a fun fast ride.. even lowering ourselves on the wire

why is there so much bad talk about the spice? its not like it was slow we were doing a good 15+ knts in the boat... and flew past a 4K that was going in the same direction with the kite up, oh and not forgetting the musto that we also flew past

Villan, you will be pleased to know that we only capsized twice, and that was on the way back in, both to windward; bang in the way of a yacht which had to alter its course slightly

Good lad!!

I had the Vareo out today .. But shifty ( as usual ) with the wind ( most of the time ) blowing across the lake towards the clubhouse, but some of the time from the Nature Lake.

Made for some interesting "Woo .. I'm planing .... " *kite suddenly collapses as I am head to wind* "What the ... Oh well .. Fun while it lasted " moments!

I'm gonna agree ... People, Stop dissing the Spice. Its fun, takes whatever you throw at it, and is always in 1 peice at the end of the day .. no matter how windy it is.

How many twin wire cherubs can say that?

Yes the Spice sounds like fun - I'm surprised there aren't more of them.

I was out in the 4k, I had a good race but the wind was a bit light to really exploit the boat's potential and any 3 sail reaches where tight, so we came about 11th out of about 20 boats.

hmmm i've heard reports of less than reliable spices.. but then again topper were always a bit hit and miss. i sailed one of the first buzzes built for a few years with no problems whatsoever, then i hear of other people who have had nothing but breakages. probably depended on the mood of the boatbuilder.... although rondar now build them, and they look good.

The raseon people slate the spice is that it is hugely underpowered, and just isnt a good boat, it fills a gap between the isoand the boss that just didnt need filling and was slower then the iso, granted it may be a good boat to step into twin wire racing but thats about it, and to say it flew past a Musto is a little far fetched!  Also 15 knotts out of a spice is impressive how much wind was there?

Sometimes a lot of sail area can be a liability.  When its really blowing boats with small rigs can be very fast - look at the 420, I suspect a Spice falls into the same category.

One of the things I like about the 4000 is that the sail area is not that big (I know your average Miracle or Laser 2000 sailor is not going to agree) and this gives you the ability to go out in a blow which only the Olympians can handle in their 49ers and RS800s.

An RS800 is an easy boat (within reason) in a blow and you dont need to be an olympian!  There is a genuine reason that the spice was a flop!  It just didnt fill the gap intended well!  People either prefered the MUCH better Iso, or braved it and bought a Boss, again the boss wasnt a success because the 49er came out!
