Kinda' going along the same lines as the eps or similar thread but im looking for a fast singlehander that isnt a laser (i have one) but has a handicap sub 1070ish. Im between 65 - 70kgs and not too tall 5ft 5". Budget wise i can spend up to £2000 max. Small lake aswel, but oppertunity to sail on the tide every once in a while. I have no ideas on what boat to pick so anyone any ideas? Thanks. |

You can occasionally pick up a blaze for sub £2k An older international moth, could be interesting. MXRay no class racing, and poor upwind performance, but amazing down wind. Supernova, simmilar to a laser/eps, has fully stayed mast with lowers and fully battened sail, maybe if your lucky sub £2k Pantom, if your extremely lucky you may get one for under 2k, but you will struggle when the wind gets up. Solo, older class, nice boats. Streaker, not sure about the handicap Hope this helps |

Vareo.
All over £2k currently, but I'm sure a bit of bargaining will get the price down |

If you can get one for the money, RS300. Canoes are wonderful and idiosyncratic, but the 122 acre reservoir I sail on is towards the bottom of the size range that you'd want to sail one at.

Very much depends on whether you want to sail for fun or race. You can pinch a Finn on flat water and even moderate waves and it will sail very nicely. However to sail one fast you need to really drive it. Ideally I'd say if very very fit minimum 13 stone. For most mortals 14.5 stone plus. |

I will just be sailing in club races. If i do go for the fin surely it isnt hard just to skip racing if its too windy. There are 2 finns down sailing every week aswel so it gives me some competition. The only thing that'd worry me would be weight. Would this idea work? |

It may do but give the Blaze a chance if you want something a little different. I have had mine out in a F6+ and nwhile it is a handful it is easily depowered (10Sqm sail) and it is nice to just cruise upwind when it is blowing wgile everyone else struggles!
