Back to the original question - has anyone mentioned the OK? OP is probebly at the light end weight wise, but a high standard of (probebly middle aged male, I guess) competition, and a huge international circuit if travelling is wanted. Not sure the UK circuit can compete with the Laser, though?

no- it will a.n.other unarig offering not a lot more than a laser, except maybe an ergonomic benefit.

Besides if Rooster gets his marketing demographic right, then he'll be targeting a lower weight range than the 100kg guy sailing on a light wind puddle in the middle of nowhereshire... which kinda puts me out of the picture.

Of course he could offer multiple rigs, and call it the same class, different rig configurations. He could then issue several MR PY numbers and MAKE the RYA give him several Experimental Numbers a year later... but I heard through the grapevine that this ain't such a great way to go, causes confusion and pisses a lot of people off.

How on earth are Rooster going to market something without a handicap advantage?

Wing Wang, the last thing you'd be allowed to do if trapped in a room with me would be to fall asleep.

If off Steves original design brief then almost certainly yes, especially if its built to cope with a 90kg + sailor.

Not sure of the numbers sold for the D-one, but i would think it will sell.  Its a bit like the Musto.  How many boats did that sell with its intial entry to the Market?  Very much like the 700, sold a bunch then dropped off.  Now looking very much like the Musto's poorer sister.

I would wait a for more years before drawing to many conclusions...

However you are right the OP, hiking single hander (thats the conclusion i drew from the post)

There's nothing wrong with market research - I seem to remember rs doing this very effectively with the rs100, but at least be upfront about it!

Because most of those are trapeze boats or are not in the same market as the Laser. Come to think of it neither is the RS100 as it has a kite.....

Sorry I didn't leave the contender out deliberately. The first post says "all suggestions welcome" nothing about no trap

As to the other comments, we have two epoxy streakers, a lightning, a solo, supernova and three rs100's and 4 blazes in the fleet, all of which I sail against regularly and most of which I have sailed or owned, so reasonable to have a view on relative speed. The only one we don't have has a Solution and I doubt anyone would violently disagree that they have little traction which was my only comment on it. Check your facts before you start pronouncing on others. Perhaps you could inform us as to which you have sailed........ Geek

Sailed or owned all in your list but the 100 and the Solution. Enjoyed sailing them, too.
