How are you getting on with your search for a boat ? We (the 5000s) have just had a fantastic Nationals at Filey and we have a big event at Loch Lomand in Sept where we are expecting 12 + boats....get onto the website forum (Laser5000.org) and I am sure we can sort something out for you....you might be interested to know that we have just supported the original 5000...GBR 5000..to get back on the water cheaply with support from the Association and members (ignore some of what is on here).....come and join in the fun with a 5K Smile

I was being kind, I know mentioning the word 'engineered' and 'Laser' (of any variety when referring to boats) is heresy.

Without considering the "virtues" of the craft in question a significant consideration is that many second hand ones will cost a hell of a lot of money in replacement string and gear to get in decent sailing order, even before you get onto sails... There are no doubt any number abandoned in dinghy parks round the country, and I wouldn't be suprised if the cost of maintenance is part of it...

I had three 5000s in my time sailing them 5241,5272,5311 all of them where great boats and the funny thing is two of them are now in poland sailing i remember seeing 5241 in lee on solents boat park three years ago so might be worth asking them is it still there.
Retired now after 35 seasons in a row and time for a rest.

Can't help with the boat situation however I can say that the 5000 class association are really friendly and helpful.  RE the boat, it is surprisingly forgiving to sail but with very powerful sail plans.
