Whats the difference to the situation of a week long 10 race nationals where you expect 2 discards early in the week so may throttle back to save boat and crew and then lose a few races later in the week so there is only 1 discard in the end.

It is an interesting twist but it was stated months in advance so all potential entrants knew what the deal was, those that chose to not come on Saturday missed a very enjoyable race.

Personally I think making it a 2 day event with a race each day would be a good thing for the future.

That's an *interesting* option to have in the SIs. If conditions are marginal you might not want to do the practice race to save boat and crew for the main race, but then the practice race can magically turn into the main race *after the finish*. In this case of course it had a big effect on the Sailjuice thing...

Saturday is a practice race, but it would be good if it actually counted and it
was a two day affair.

Especially as it has, from my memory, always been the case that the practice
race results will substitute the main day results if the race was unable to be
run for whatever reason.

Doug, I wasn't aware it was a two day affair, it said Saturday was a practice race.

That's why it's worth doing two days and making a weekend of it. I actually
think the saturday race should no longer be a practice race but instead a
race that actually counts.
1 big race per day, obviously no discard. I can't think of a good reason not
to seeming as they're already running it in the first place.

I can't remember it being cancelled before but I'm sure it's happened sometime in its long history. But it is always a good idea to sail both days - it's a nice place to sail after all, and for visitors a good opportunity to orientate yourself buoywise.

Gather it was another well-deserved win for Simon Allen in his Canoe.
