Hmm, a topaz vibe would be a good option if your looking for something that you can bash around a little bit without having to worry too much about damaging it. An RS Vision would be good for this purpose too.
If your looking for something a bit quicker then go for a Buzz or similar |

Good idea. If you click on the sail number it will tell you the class (you may have to enlarge the window slighlty). The website doesn't list the Laser 2000 as a preferred class even though it is the most active class. I think they decided not to give it the kiss of death by making it official 
I think there is possibly a couple of RS200's although one of these belongs to the Navy. The other is a regular racer. Infact as the PY of the 200 is only one different to our Vago, he is our closest competition. Edited by ellistine |

I agree with the comments of looking at what classes are sailed at your local sailing club (Castle Cove would seem the obvious choice). I understand why you would prefer an assymetric as they are simpler. At 140kg you will be at the top end of the competitive weight range for an RS200, although they will happily carry much more. They are quite tippy though and a bit unforgiving to slight mistakes that a beginner may make, if you are keen and don’t mind a bit of swimming you will certainly grow into it though. If you fancy something a bit more forgiving then the Laser 2000 could be better. However I don’t think you should write off symetric kites, there are a few Scorpions at Castle Cove, they are more forgiving than an RS200 and are within budget but the boats in budget are going to be wood. I just had a look at the castle Cove website as the results section should provide some information on what the bigger fleets are but unfortunately they just list the sail numbers, not the classes! |

RS200 is a great boat, the best thing is they hold there value, so you can sell it if you do not like it. Its tippy when windy though

200 is the best boat I have sailed as a double hander to date. Really comfy, easy to manage/handle etc and loads of following.
(I did say sailed to date , not sailed everything though) |

I think you'll be pushed to find one for what you've said want to spend but speaking as an SI, I think an RS200 would be a great choice for two keen, fit beginners, so if it's what you want and you can find the extra money, go for it. I'm pretty sure if it didn't work out you'd have no trouble selling without much loss.

if I had a choice I think I'd rather go for a hiker with assymetric gennaker than a boat with trapeze and spinnaker. RS200 does look the business but nothing below £3k...if there was general feeling amongst you all that it would be an ok choice I'd perhaps stretch the budget and go for one.........
