Eastbourne!

No amount of raising centreboard or rudder will ever save you!

Filey can be a nightmare after a few days of easterly breezes, especially if the wind drops or changes direction, leaving you to try and launch over huge breakers while being sheltered from the breeze by the cliffs.

1985 Solos and safety boats  launching in a slight dump at Pevensey.

It does get worse than this but not that often.

Surely the south coast hasn't got the meanest dumps?

Ah Lancing yes I can remember the last time sailed there which was the last time I sailed there. Someone got carted off to hospital after too much boat came in con tact. Must be 25+yrs ago. I couldn't do that every weekend - respect to those that do.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

One of my most fond memories of sailing was at the Scorpion nationals at Sidmouth in 2004. We were out braving the wind (the committee boat recorded gusts of 27 kts with aeverage windspeed around 22 kts). Screaming along on a reach (2 sails) and we sailed through a pod of Dolphins who had come to play. The helm was not impressed she told me to pay attention!
