I friend of mine has just fallen foul of an old Angel 600 mast....I suggested he find some Cherub sailors to sell it too

If its an Angel with a carbon sheave you'll be fine. Generally the angel's were slightly faster, but not much in it

The big problem was with masts that used an aluminium sleeve where the extra piece goes in the bottom. This was not a clever idea and any surviving spars are best avoided, especially if you sail regularly on the sea.

Just make sure you have new-for-old insurance just in case the worse happens

You'll be fine with an angel mast, though you're right, a superspar would be
the preferable mast to have. Angel started off well, then had a long time of
breakages. By the time angel masts sorted out the issues, deals had been
done with superspar. The Angel masts that are around still in one piece
generally the better ones that were made but you'll be safer overall with a
superspar. Plenty of people are using Angels with no problems at all.

No difference in performance between the two sections.

When i was looking at buying a 600 I was told that superspars are the best especialy as they are much less likely to snap. Angel masts do have a bad reputation of snapping. RS now use superspar carbon masts on the 300 600 700 800 (may have missed some out??) which shows that they must be of higher quality. I don't think there is any difference in performance although maybe wrong?

I'm looking at buying a 600 at the moment, and have been told that a boat with a superspars mast is much more desirable than those with other masts. What is the difference between a superspars mast and one from another manufacturer, such as angel? And would this affect performance in any way? Any ideas?
