....If you don't want chop a big hole Maybe drill an 8mm (or whatever) hole straight down at he join and inject some gunk and then fill the hole in. That would be easier than mucking about with a coat hangar.

IMHO going through the deck provides a better result than unnecessarily disturbing the more important outer skin fibres and maybe creating hard spots in the core with filler. As for the cosmetics, it completely depends how the deck is finished, and I don't know what boat it is to comment. If its painted or pro gripped then you'll never see the join on the deck. The pro's would cut in through the bottom of the hull to do that kind of repair, although it sounds more drastic they do that as it is far easier to get the repair to the hole they cut in the bottom of the boat rather than trying to re-create the mottled grippy bit on the cockpit floor.

In the long term you will save time/money/heartache by having that done professionally if you don't feel confident to do it properly yuorself. You need to ideally clean all the failed bonding pase off the top on the post and key both the post and the underside of the floor to enable it to stick. What to glue it with depends on the boat, epoxy is actually unlikely to cause a problem there on a polyester boat, but it still may be better to use a proper polyester bonding paste. Accessibility wise i think the only way you're going to get to that properly is to cut a hole in the floor or the botom of the boat. If you don't you're unlikely to get enough of a key for it to stick properly and you'll have an awful job of trying to do it again later. Edited by Paramedic |

It looks like the sort of job worth doing properly, but as I am singularly cack handed at almost any meaningful repair I can't offer too much advice.
Would it be worth making a fibreglass plate to glue on top of the 'post', which can then offer a larger gluing surface for the deck? |
