Light airs performance is very much a function of (sail area/wetted area), which is clearly a lot better for the standard rig than for the Radial.

But give the Radial a go and let us know how you get on...

In extremely light winds the Radial is much slower (worse on handicap) than a standard.

I'd be hunting for a full rig (or even better 8.1 rig) to borrow in wind that light or better yet sit on shore with a drink and watch the silly people drifting.  Radial in wind that light has no chance on handicap.

At our Club we would count races sailed with alternative rigs in a series as seperate entries because of the handicap difference.

Beer would also help get you to full rig weight so you don't have to worry about whether to sail the radial or not!

But will it stay that light? As soon as a bit of wind comes in you're dead as mutton...
