Nice to see tt has had a go in real mans boat i vote for the five every time but thats cause i have a rally nice one next to last one every made.

As for choice on boats if i were you i would consider an international 14 we had one years ago 1337 the number i think. It was a good fun boat to learn the art of twin wiring also had a shoot so easy for the kite if you bought a penulitmate one there is lots of spares around for them.As for the spice we had one in our club nice enough boat hard to find spares the guy who owned it kept breaking his rudder stock on it.

Retired now after 35 seasons in a row and time for a rest.

An alternative worth thinking about.....

- if you just want to burn around and  learn to twin-wire and not too bothered  what you 're  out on,  you can pick up a Topper Spice cheap enough.  (I don't think  you'll spend more than 1500quid,  so you'd save yourself a few bob).

Never sailed one, but probably good fun and  more manageable over a  good range of conditions.

One for sail in YnY classifieds:

TOPPER SPICE GBR316, brand new mast, jib and kite, VGC main and foils, bought as bare hull with spars and foils 2008 and reconditioned to high spec.
Trailer Trolley Topcover
£1500 ovno

You are too light to race the 800 competitively on the circuit, you will be off the weight matrix meaning max racks, 4 lumps of lead and granny bars. This all makes the boat harder to sail as it is so damn wide - I say 'harder', it is not impossible but you will be at a distinct disadvantage. That said if you just want to have fun club racing then set the racks in a mid-setting and have fun!

800s arent that much in demand, I know some that have been for sale for months.

Highlander

with 4K  in your  pocket, maybe go for a  RS800 -  same designer as the 5000, but more refined and  less powered up but a good boat to sail.

Also what do you want to do with the boat.... go for a burn or race competitively (against what kind of  competition)...

If  you're strong enough - go for a 5000 but take note. I  am a huge fan of the 5000 (prefering it to say the 49er), but it is a powerful boat. It handles very well, it kicks ass,  and  actually a quite a  stable platform.  Very exhilarating. The bag/kite system takes a little  bit getting used to, but  sailing 420s it won't be a surprise (bag, no chute), other than the size of the spinny.  For  £2000 you'll pick up a good  quality example. See the association - there's a few for sail.... actually one on ebay at the moment (current bid £900).

The RS800 is considerably wider than int14 and Cherub, so you can generate sufficient righting moment even if you are small.

You will be able to right it on your own in most conditions and also be just fine with your combined weight instead of being at the upper or lower limit.

You don't have to be big to sail a cherub either. It also doesn't have a
particularly big rig and you wouldn't have to spend much to get one.

However the benefit of both boats having smaller rigs is that you can push them into heavier and heavier winds where as something like an I14 flies in the medium stuff but becomes very hairy in the big stuff with all of that sail area.

Not at all. The RS 800 has weight and height equalised racks to supposedly cancel out any advantage or disadvantage.
