Hmmm, looks like I should have put the end bracket over to the right a bit!

I put the date in to give it some perspective - not many books that old are actually funny to today's readers.

Blimey Mags how old are you!!! If you read that book in 1889, that 120 years ago

Did anyone see that program on virgin1 with Richard Branson?

iirc, there has been a whole topic about this? /mentioned in a topic before...

But hey, yeh i saw it, and tbh, we didnt see him above deck much, none of
the members of his family seemed to be doing anything, but still, little
unfortunate on the weather!

I'd HATE a "celebrity" boat show for all of the reasons that have been stated, but the fact remains that Awesome Aussie Skiffs makes excellent viewing, whereas watching most (all?) other kinds of sailing is usually dull

I'd agree with most of the above comments.

A poorly done project could certainly do as much harm as good.

I do recall a programme called 'Three men in another boat' last year with Griff Rhys Jones, Dara O'Briain and Rory Bremner. I found it most enjoyable with GRJones being the yotty trying to 'educate' the other two. The final race off with a sister boat was obviously stage managed (in much the same way as 'Top gear' does it), but did manage to convey some excitement to the general viewers. The sailing was as much a vehicle for the three celebs, so in itself didn't open itself up to close scrutiny.
