Funny, I always suspected you might be the sort to stick a hose up your
wetsuit.

The bics in Canada had trolleys, or at least some of them did- the boats were brand spankng new out of the bubble wrap delivered direct specially for the youth regatta.  we did notice they were heavy as we hurled them out of our dinghy park...

I went to school in Dover, but that was way back before watersports centres were invented.....
the same, but different...

If you can't carry it, don't sail it!

A couple of times last summer she took her pals out in it for a bit and I
was biting my nails on the shore watching in case she did something
stupid.

It's too heavy, two of them can't lift it, even three kids struggle.

O.K. good news on the water as it's less likely to go over, but a nightmare
getting it too and fro, it didn't come with a trolley of any description, I
should hope by now they have them, I got it early on in its shelf life here
from one of the reps for the company that sells them.

Honestly it's that close to going on ebay..

But she's now at school in Dover and they go sailing at the waterpsorts
centre in the harbour there, it's where she learned. Another thing about
kids, someone else always teaches them better than you will, they don't
play up as much, well girls don't I imagine boys might be different with
dad.

My findings:

A) Definately a good idea to Marry a sailor
B) Dont sail with wife, did this on a Dart 18 and although we did very well finishing top 3 at an open, she didnt like it when I shouted, she took it personally even though I was shouting at the boat, myself and any other inanimate object
C) Getting her pregnant didnt work, due to only one income I am now barred from travelling so no more open meetings, although I may try to wangle a Nationals as a family holiday !!!

I do however hold some hope that my 8month old daughter will crew for me in a Graduate when she's about 6yrs old. I do however have no intention of encouraging her into the RYA system instead she can sail what she wants to sail and with whoever.

My Wife gets sea sick, she hasnt yet on inland water although she does sometimes go a bit green!!  We are hoping to do Abersoch Dinghy week in the Jeep as her first sea event, if she does puke i will buy a phantom, and she can babysit.

That's my plan... I'm thinking that me and my six month
old baby girl will have the perfect all up wieght for a cherub....

Don't bank on it.

In fact you have my youngest daughter to thank for my 'conversion' to sit
down hell on water...

Following the MPS episode it was the breadknifes suggestion that I get a
sailing boat and we did it together. Unfortunately one collision at a mark
rounding followed by a shunt by Dr Death at the windward mark put paid
to that, she's no longer interested. I'm hoping she'll re engage at her new
school, but despite her own little Bic Open and lots of encouragement she
just doesn't 'like' it. Not that these past two summers have been exactly
child/sailing friendly I was just hoping she didn't go the same way the
other three did with windsurfing which was to bale on it entirely.

Best not to place too much hope in your kids doing what you do. I still
get pangs every time I see Bryony do well and wonder if I'd been a bit
firmer with my eldest who beat her the very first nationals she did. Then
she's just graduated fluent in two languages and is set for a decent career
so who can say what's the 'right' thing to do, everyone has a will of their
own and I've never believed you should force your life on others, kids,
spouse whatever.

It gets worse before it get better, trusts me.

School friends and charity organisers insist on chosing Sunday afternoons for birthday parties, charity fairs, open days, visit to the unmissable soft play room And-I-have-to-go-cos-my-bestest-friend-is-going-and-I-want-t o-wear-new-clothes...

Multiply by two and it's the start of endless conflicts and negociations with the better (!) half, debating on who's going to taxi/babysit and who's going to sail.

Older daughter has her own Topper and loads of nice friends at the club (ask Delphina), so she looks after herself. Fortunately for me, younger daughter's best sailing friend gets looked after by her gran, who is very happy to take my girl under her wing.

Failing that, I take her sailing with me

I taught my wife how to sail, she loves it.  The only problem now is this 3 year old that looks a bit like me that just doesnt seem to leave us alone!!!
