Surely the kicker load on the gooseneck is always downwards? You'll always want some load in the kicker in this rig, I'd have thought - una rigs require less twist than mainsails on jibbed rigs such as the Lark.

You might have noted the earlier comment that the standard boom is too bendy (like that of the Topper in my experience). Might be worth getting a larger diameter and sleeving it down where it takes the gooseneck fitting, especially when you think that the latest Laser kickers are as powerful as 15:1.

I have recently purchase a Minisail, and as some of the previous messages I have read, am seeking guidance/advice on the rigging.  The boat I have bought has the hull, mast, mainsail, rudder and centre-board.  However, I am lacking a boom.

I have priced up some aluminium tube from Metals4U (3M long), with a nominal diameter of 1 1/2 " X 10 SWG, and reckon that I can use the standard Topper goose neck and boom end fittings. This thinking is based upon the mast I have is 60mm in diameter, and the gooseneck for the topper is approx 62mm (Chandlers advice).

Whilst initially pleased with this result, I have realised that the boom could pivot about the kicker (Which I have) when sheeted in.  This would then cause the goose-neck to ride upwards.  The boom I assume, needs some form of fixing/restraint, but there are no fittings on the mast to indicate how this is done.

Any opinions, feedback, or advice would be gratefully received.

P.S I currently sail a Lark, the only boat I have ended up inverting on Bala Lake!!

It was actually a Solo main, as Tony Allen raided the Holt Allen parts bin!

Thanks for the scan.

The gushing blurb looks suspiciously like it's been supplied by a class
association, which is usually how these directory-type books were put
together.

Everything in that rig is bending or stretching, including the sailcloth, by the looks of it. Tragic. With a crew like that, I might not notice, though.

So, the Minisail was allegedly 'Britain's fastest growing glassfibre dinghy class' in 1972, but at some stage it all went wrong. Does anybody know when Richmond Marine, marketers of the Minisail went out of business?
