Oh come on guys!!! I don't think you are taking this too seriously. Just because the original post and follow up were written in the style of a 14 year old text geek!! If he wants to singlehand his yacht he would be better withan Open 60 Mono or Trimaran. If Ellen Macarthur can sail one at 22 years old, a 47 year old sailing virgin should have no problem. As you are based in Turkey, there are plenty of very good holiday companies who you would be able to book a weeks sailing with to give you an idea of what it is all about. On the other hand, the suggestion of a 2nd hand cup yacht with Chris Dickson as skipper to give you a few lessons is an approach that almost worked for the Oracle boss, and that boat and skipper combo has just come on the market...

There should be a number of almost new yachts up for sale in the Valencia area in the not to distant future. They'll be fun to sail. Just like big dinghies really.

Just a question, How old are you? If you buy the yacht, and then hire a captain to "teach" you, you will end up paying a LOT more. Go a sailing club, get talking to people, crew on some boats ( as suggested earlier ) and get some experience, and see if you like it or not. |

Yeah, good idea, get something big like a Bavaria 39, or a Swan 45. Won't cost too much and they're really easy to park on your own.

Agree with rupert, not into big boats but the Lesson and crew option is the best bet before spending all your hard earned cash on somthing unsuitable.
