I found the joy of using bar tape/racket grip was that even when it came off it left behind it's cloth base which was a reasonable grip itself.

the rope and tape system works well. But a golf handle is easy too, just use a bit of washing up liquid to get it on.

i'd go with the bike handle bar tape option. the cork stuff i have on my bike works fine also it doesnt soak up much water. id suggest supperglueing it to the extension. or perhaps epoxy would work better.

What I have seen is a piece of rope wound around the extension and covered in electricians tape. Very unusual but works quite well.

go to a golf shop and buy a re-gripping kit doesnt cost much but does the job perfectly. just try not to get any glue on yourself doesnt come off for weeks.

I personally wouldn't use self amal as it sticks to itelf and not much else. Of course if the boat and helm are properly balanced you hardly need any grip at all! |

Or go to your bicycle shop and buy handlebar tape in the colour of your choice. I found that the old-fashioned cloth tape (if you can still find it) was really grippy, though the 'cork' type will give you more bulk. Again, as 541 suggests, finish off with sticky (I used the universal 'electrical tape') or self-amalgamating tape to hold the ends in place |

Go to the local sports shop and buy a pack of Hockey stick / Racket grips (about £5 for 2) Clean off the Aluminium tubing and rough up with a little wet and dry (to provide a key) Apply grip Apply a bit of gaffer tape or similar to each of the open ends to prevent lift Regripping - Done |
