Villans got it! I have a voice activated mainsheet system... the louder i shout, the faster it gets sheeted

On a serious note... I just pivot the extension up so it points skywards in front of my face and use the standard grip method as described by Doug. If anything, I would say it is easier than the frying pan as you can easily get your hand in front of you... either that or I use my teeth a lot

Surely the same way as all the other grips?  Pull the mainsheet in towards your tiller hand, clamp and repeat.  Granted, it would appear an arkward pulling angle to get it to the tiller hand, though none the less, still doable.  Of course it may just appear arkward because its not the way i hold the tiller.

I'd never thought about it, but in all the photos I am using a spear grip so I guess that is my favourite! Gives you good purchase for the sometimes necessary aggressive bear away!

over shoulder, hand at chest level (does that get called spear?). maybee that is cos the tillers on the 12 are really long. havent taken crews eye out as far as i know, Skiffe?

from memory i move my hand in a bit to take the sheet before the tacks, but i dont really know, it all happens kinda fast.

I notice Alaster Richardson very rarely uses a dagger grip in the Higher and Faster DVD.

I'd love to see how he rounds up around the leeward mark (and gets the mainsheet in) using that grip.  But of course it doesn't apply to the 29er and the 49er - only the 800.
