Actually you can and people used to make a down to weight 505 out of wood or even uncored glass. |

sorry I did not wright that getafix did I just used copy and paste from his post. I was saying that the 505 is made out of carbon so he would strugle to make that lighter than it is.

getafix Boats that could be built super light using modern materials versus their original weight vs power ratio: Osprey, Hornet, Fireball, 505, Solo(!), Blaze X, ISO, Buzz, Boss, L5000, L4000, L2000, RS400, RS200 ... you could go on a long time
you would have a bit on making a 505 lighter is is made from carbon!! but know what you mean about the others.

As far as I know the Laser 5000 still has the same weight equilisation it always had, the only difference being you can now weigh in in normal clothes not sailing gear. |

Believe both L5000 and Blaze threw out weight equalisation some time
ago, L5000 woes have been well covered elsewhere and the Blaze pro's
and cons were thoroughly addressed in the RS300 vs Blaze thread a while
back
.... I suggested the hiking wings as an addition to the N12 custom because I think it gives a lower 'entry point' to the class and differentiates it from a 12ft skiff which are great, but mental, in their own right... Just thought of another one ripe for some serious weight reduction - Javelin, a carbon rig and some serious weight hack off would make these even more lethal on handicap than they are now - shame there's so few of them around |

Uffa Fox said it first... It would be an interesting exercise for one of the weight equalised classes to throw the rule book our for one event and have everyon race with no lead and max wing, and see if a) they like the boat better that way and b)it makes any great change to the results fcompared to the formbook. |
