There used to be an East Cowes sailing club (I dont know if its still there) and British Hovercraft/Westlands had their own club at one time.

You are missing the obvious answer, which is Cowes. Royal Yacht Squadron, Royal Corinthian, Royal London and Island Sailing Club, all within a two minute walk, plus Cowes Corinthian another 5 minutes away and Gurnard SC a mile down the road.

Or Langstone and Chichester Harbours. There are many clubs in that area... Langstone, HISC, Emsworth, Emsworth Slipper, Itchenor, Eastney Crusing Association, Locks, Mengeham Rythe, Thorney Island, Tudor.... etc etc! There are more too I just can't remember them off hand!

If you allow areas for inland stuff then it has to be the Cotswold Water Park, with Whitefriars, South Cerney and Cotswold all within a stone's throw
