It might not even be so much to do with the price of petrol, we have loads of dinghies sitting in dinghy parks in Plymouth and so far this season, I haven't had the pleasure of racing against over 90 percent of them. Maybe people are moving away from the racing side of sailing, hence the heavy investment in "easier" boats that some manufacturers are making. Mind you it could be all the guys aren't as daft as us and are staying nice and comfy racing yachts until it get warmer.

Ok I'll clarify - mortgage, bills and food obviously come first, but after the essentials there is a secondary budget which can be spent on sailing, diy, eating out, cinema, drinking etc.

What I'm saying is that sailing tends to take priority over all the other leisure activities when it comes to my disposable income, and if you are serious about the sport then that's really how it should be.

That is fair enough ... it's just as fuel prices have crept up & up I guess at some point the secondary budget gets consummed ...

What would be interesting to see is some stats on Open Meeting attendance ... a bit like the Nats table Y&Y do.

I guess it would be a big job to collate all the data ,,,

Rick

I was under the impression we were talking about the rise in petrol prices, not rediculous petrol prices in general.
If an extra few pence per litre makes the differance between not being able to put a roof over your head and feed your family or not then maby you should tone down the sailing a little anyway as thats running a little close to the line for my tastes
