We put blue dye in the lake at South Cerney too which keeps the weed in check. The poor guy who has to put the powder in the lake comes back looking like a smurf  Big smile

Our lake is supposed to be an emergency water supply, suppose you could just use it for vegetables save putting salt in Bowmoor put food dye in the water, the water is blue even small quantities.

The ones at my old club would be distinctly unhappy as it's a drinking water reservoir  Evil Smile

Wonder what Rangers would say if we dumped several tons of salt in our lake  Smile

The river is tidal, so when the tide is high enough to fill the marine lake, it's marine water in the river.

True

Means the boats displace less, so go faster and get on the plane earlier.

That's a side effect not a reason  Wink

Also means it doesn't stink like a pond!

That's true but probably just good luck......

LOL LOL LOL

At my old windsurfing club the wardens used to ask for our help to get to the island where the Canada Geese nested so they could destroy the eggs.

Sounds like a win win, environmentalists wouldn't like it though probably affect the Canadian Geese, no, that's another win

Probably but I've never heard of a lake management doing so. It would probably keep the fish down too on an inland lake so that would repel the worm drowning fraternity who seem to have much more clout than us 'dinghyists' on most ponds..........

I've never seen a marine lake anywhere but close to the sea, no point really IMHO. All the ones up here are filled with seawater, mostly, as Rupert says, at spring tides. Either by opening some gates/sluices to allow the water in or, in the case of West Kirby, by the simple expedient of having the retaining wall slightly below the level of the spring tides so it refills every month or so.
