I think there would be some error in their for leeway, but maybe there is a constant you can use to correct that.
Would be semi useful for laylines. But for strategy you'd need to know not only what the tidal wind shift that you're experience is now, but model what it could be elsewhere on the course. That would be pretty sophisticated but I'm sure the AC guys have it.
Of course, you'd never believe it GRF!

Why not? I thought they made a good argument at least on the basic level for you none planing yotties and by now there must be some electronic system that comes close to the natural instinct of a windsurfing tactical tidal genius that can judge these things by sense of smell and using the Force...

Bare in mind a lot of classes only allow digital watches/compass, other features are banned

Thanks Mozzy - yes I can see that messing around pre start would be weird and also on my pond totally pointless as the shifts are mega and you dont need a compass to tell you! But on the sea for opens might be handy...

I have been using my old Silva compass from laser sailing days but it is too big and getting in the way now so needs to be replaced with something smaller.

Assuming you just want a compass read out - assume the new Prism is right up your street??

I've always sailed with a compass, but have only ever used the actual headings.

I find the added features don't work too well with tacking angles changing and large permanent shifts making the extra features pretty useless. It's also pretty frantic to programme pre-start.

I wouldn't recommend paying for an extra features on a dinghy, and personally I'd prefer to pay less for a micro without the extra features that has.

On sportboats and bigger with GPS and anemometers the extra features become much more useful. You will also have spare crew to specifically programme in pre-start.

It may be worth checking what class rules before you spend money.

Hi - looking to get a TT unit for my dinghy. I am familiar with the micro which most people have but see they also made a Race Master which I think was more aimed at sports boats as it was bigger (??) and had a feature on deviation from mean wind direction. Some of these race master units are now available second hand - has anyone used one, are they suitable size for a dinghy? Any other pointers welcome. Thanks
