2hander wise the usual suspects have been suggested for the lighter crew, miracle, lark etc national12 if you want something a bit different ...

Have sailed the Hartley 12. Actually pretty good for an adult, and easy to convert to the 12-2, the double handed version. Well worth a trial sail. Not really a racing boat, though.
Can't remember if you said where you were. Rockley Point have both versions. I think Nessa has them, too, in Cambridgeshire. |

Ah, then another boat worthy of consideration must then be the Solution, which, has enough volume and space for a passenger if needs be.

The Byte for one up, I'm considering two boats. A dealer I just spoke to was raving about a Hartley 12, but I'm not convinced. Any thoughts? |

There are many small Singlehanders out there. Try as many as you can - you'll have fun and be able to make an informed decision. Byte is a fun little go-cart of a boat.
As a cruiser/racer, the 2000 is pretty versatile. |

OK, I spent a lot of time looking at boat specs and weight ranges and I think it's going to be a two-boat setup.
For the single-hander as mentioned the Byte looks the best fit for my weight/size. I also looked at the RS100 but I think that's pushing it a bit for my level of skill. Also, I read some people having issues righting these and I'm on the edge of the weight range of the smallest sail. Any thoughts? Probably something for the future. For the two-hander, the Laser 2000 looks like a great option. I've also read a lot of good things on the RS200 for our weight range but is it something to start in with a beginner? Alternative seems to be the Laser Vago but I think that's too advanced for us to start in. As mentioned the Vibe isn't sailed that much but I've read good reviews. Feva XL probably too small and us too heavy.

The Vibe never really caught on with private buyers. We have one at the club, and it looks OK,but I've never seen it sailing. Very much an institution boat.

Byte CII would suit your weight perfectly and has a much nicer rig than a Laser.
There is a bit of a secondhand market as people start to upgrade to newer boats, though if you look at the results from Bristol (on the homepage) it was won by one of the oldest boats in the fleet. With the worlds coming to the UK in 2018 and the fleet seeming to be growing now could be a great time to give one a try. Double handed the 2000 is a great boat, but agree could be a little heavy to pull up the slope without a second person.
