I went through exactly the same withwith my then 10 year old.
The rotating mast was aliitle tricky at first - its not just a case of pulling/pushing but needs to go up and down too.
Initially we just set it up with the mast fixed in line with the boom and forgot about it- that was ok for general sailing but certainly not quick racing.
Sheet loads are light and we really enjoyed it - v stable and fast.
Weight wil be fine.
Enjoy it

A small point, but the pole on a Tasar at isn't a dangly one, it's a conventional jib stick stowed along the boom. I think you would be a good size for it.

Over rotating masts are no trouble at all IME: you just need to get in the habit of grabbing the handle mid tack. I always used to just push it over with a foot if I missed it. Its amazing how many people it worries though. There's a girl a bit younger than that who handles a dangly pole just fine at my club in an N12.

Considering a Tasar as a way to start my 10 year old daughter off with some experience of actually racing at Grafham, where she's been sailing, but not racing, an Optimist and recently a Topper for the past four years.
Tasar appeals because it's reasonably quick - certainly compared to the family Wayfarer that she's used to - and doesn't involve the challenge of a third sail. So how's the crewing challenge on a Tasar? Is the rotating mast tricky? What about the dangly pole? Would it be fun for an enthusiastic and pretty strong 10 year old girl who's well used to being out on the water? I'm about 16 stone - she's an average sized 10 year old. Would that be an ok weight combination in a Tasar? Thanks, Simon
