We're doing our first trip to Texel this year.

Travelling from West Wales, overnight ferry from Dover with two F18s stacked.

Any top tips appreciated on travel and when we get to Texel.

Don't pack anything that you need for camping in the trailer. As soon as you reach Paal 17 the trailer is taken by a tractor down the beach and it can be a loooong way down the beach if you are late.
You need to be able to shunt the masts backwards on the trailer so that it can be hitched up to the tractor
Watch how the locals launch if it is rough.
Don't phaff about with launching trollies when coming in or out - every year someone gets hurt trying to hold a boat in the surf.

have you got your measurement certificates? when you get to the bit where the tractors pick you up on the beach you need to be logged in with the race team on the beach.
when the tractors has got you tell him where you want to be and stick to it, last year having driven all night we nearly got in a punch up with an arsey german c£$% because he didnt want us crowding him on the beach. Not the ideal way to start the week anyway we managed to piss him off every day so it was well worth it. The beer in the tent is very expensive and knowing how much you guys drink you will need more money than you think, although the bouncers dont check your bags so go in every night well stocked.

If Measurement is a problem on an F18 give Ryan Crawford a call on 07817868795 before you go so that he can pick you up some stickers etc.

He can then put some time in to get you a certificate ready but i think they are quite lax about measure ment unless you are sailing an F18 for the fleet racing!  Smile

On a general note though. Bikes can be pretty handy if your not staying too far away and make it easier to go to the tent for some beers in the evenings.

They were hot on the measurment thing last year. That might have been because we were doing the dutch open at texcel before the round texcel on the saturday.

I'll give Ryan a call tomorrow, hopefully he'll be able to help us out. Ferry and accomodation booked.
Nothing on the boat remotely close to the edge, old Tiger so no risk of being underweight, all sails within spec and lardy crew who haven't raced much this year apart from Bala due to crap weather.
We're in no risk of worrying the front of the fleet.
