Thinking of a dry suit for cat sailing as I froze last weekend, any suggestions for good ones? is it better with a back zip or front zip?
Hopefully somone here will have tried or used different types. Thanks |

Well
I bought a Gull drysuit with front zip . On its first outing there were 3 other people doing the winter series, all whom had gone to the same kayak windsurfing sail shop near Frinton, so 4 identikit Grey Gull drysuited cold weather sailors. All the above were standing around looking like it was obligotary to be enjoying the winter and frankly I made a decision, mainly on health grounds to cease sailing till spring time. hence twice worn XXL dry suit up for grabs in N Essex if anyone' is interested, £165 ovno, think it cost £220. ps if rear zipped wet suits are anything to compare with its front zip every time in my humble estimation.

There are modern winter wetsuits that are almost dry, warm enough for sailing in any sane weather and leave you much more mobile that a dry suit. Seem like a better bet to me. Cost of a top-end wetsuit and drysuit are much of a much-ness.

If trapeezing, I think you'll find a back zip more confortable and as you have a crew/helm it would be do it up for you, less to stuff into the harness.
It all depends on your own prefrence. |

If you sail alone, hooking the zip loop onto a changing room peg and pulling seems to be the solution to back zips but I prefer front zip anytime.

Sailing (crew) a 505, I have zero problem with a front zip Gul drysuit.
TBH after 5 minutes of wearing it I forget it is on - to me the sign of a decent bit of kit

Front zips allow easier on the water 'comfort breaks' for gents. Ive found that an advantage when racing some way from the club on a busy back to back racing schedule

+1
front zips get scrunched up when bending.
With back zips though If you've got flatulence the poor sod who unzips you suffers.

My personnal preference is the Musto MPX (gortex), front zip and very comfy. Plus very easy to use when those calls of nature occur
