I was wondering whether any one might be able to give me an idea about the rig tension for a contender. I was also wondering what purchase other contenders use on the main sheet as i have found in strong winds the loads can become quite high.

Hello Mike

You have come to the right place for advice. There is myself, Matt Jackson and Bigwavedave (at least as there are a couple more) who all sail Contenders and are on this forum.

Rig tension should be between 240lbs and 340lbs. For full tips on rigging go to the British Contender Association website on

http://www.sailingsource.com/contender/gbr/

There is a tuning guide there.

Where do you sail Mike and what is your sail number?

Bigwavedave and myself were at the club yesterday getting our boats ready for the season. We did measure our rig tension but I can't remember how much it was.

Keep the questions coming.

Thanks for that. I sail at Draycote, but hope to do some opens later in the year, once i've learnt to sail it. The sail number is 278.

Sorry - missed this first time around.

My rig tension is 150kg (330lb) which is at the top end of the range because so is my weight. As a rule the heavier you are the more rig tension you need.

How are you getting on?
