IMHO the RS300 is a delightful boat.
I have sailed a Blaze too. However your opinion is ultimately the only one that matters, so probably best if you organise a yacht in one of each... Edited by JimC |

If a challenge is what you're after then I reckon go for an RS300. If you're
fine in a laser then you'll be fine in a blaze but the 300 is a whole different feeling. Doug H |

Thanks for your reply's. Is the rs 300 a reachable challenge though? The downwind speed of the blaze is very appealing but the rs 300 is a great all rounder with tonnes of speed, tough choice. o right i think a test sail in both would be good idea. Thanks Matt

Both great boats, wish either had been around when I was 16! Guess it really depends what sort of challenge you want. From a racing point of view you're spot on the right age and weight to really make progress with the Laser if that's what motivates you. You're very unlikely to get the same scope and depth of racing in the 300 or the Blaze, but they are IMHO more "interesting" boats. If you've sailed Lasers for a couple of years you'll be able to jump in a Blaze and sail it, but I've seen experienced Laser sailors jump in a 300 and fall in - a lot.
As you say, you do need to sail them both but the decisions really down to what you want from your sailing. |

Yes thanks again for replying. well i think it will be a lot of thinking time as yes the laser has a great racing scean. Both boats however look great fun however the rs for me seems that as long as soon as u get the hang of it its amazing and i want a boat that once i have learnt it will always make me smile when sailing, not sure if both will do this but maybe they will. But im still very open about them both

i was once a laser sailor in your exact position (same weight but 2years older). never sailed the blaze so can't really comment on it. i got a 300 after trying a mates one and instantly falling in love with it. realistically the 300 will take you the best part of a season to be able to sail it properly. its not a boat that you can jump in and sail well. not only that but in breeze and chop it can become quite hairy sometimes. That said the boats seem pretty sturdy and the older boats are just as fast as the new ones. where are you based? im sure we can arrange a test sail for you in one. for more info from 300 veterans your best bet is to join the yahoo group and ask away.

Well thats great i think im tipping towards rs 300 now ill give it a bit of time but it seems as though if u learn it, it will always be exsiting to race and a good, challenging boat. And fast <<<<< my kinda boat lol Thanks anyway Matt |

Wel one blaze nearby but at another club. However lots of people at my club are looking for decent single handed boats and are just waiting for people to start a class off, im sure i would soon be join watever boat i chose. The redeye solution has recently took off. wat sort of price would be normal for a good rs 300 Matt |
