I'm sitting here watching Awesome Aussi Skiffs as I do from time to time, and thinking as we all have I'm sure... that when its done properly, sailing makes great TV.

So sticking with current programming trends on TV how about celebrity sailing.

Each Celeb could team up with a pro crew and sail a different boat each week. Normal system of eliminating people so that we end up with a match race at the end. Perhaps they could start on something simple such as a Wayfarer and work there way up to 800's

What do you all think?

Ian

I think television and celebrity culture mars and spoils everything it touches, so the further it stays away from sailing the better!

I tend to agree. On top of that, the more publicity you bring to sailing,
the more people decide to have an uninformed opinion on it. With
uninformed opinions come uninformed campaigns from the crappy
tabloid papers and with the health and safety muppets come along to
make muppet rules on how we should do our own sport.

Ok, a bit of on extreme scenario. Maybe it could be good so far as
getting some sponsorship into the sport. Much like when Audi sponsored
the Laser 4000 circuit.

But I'm with jim in that these D list Celebs and lame "reality" tv shows
merely taint everything they touch.
