Ongoing problem of what to get as End of Season or Open Meeting prizes. This year we have gone for a useful pottery bowl with club logo and year on it, but the question is what to do next year.

People seem to get tired of beer mugs and tumblers and glass ornaments get easily broken.  Tshirts are difficult to get in the right sizes.

What is the best or most useful thing you have won (within a reasonable budget - some 30+ prizes to get!)  Or what would you like to get?

Stuff like mainsheets, blocks or other boat bits always seemed good prizes to me back in the days when I was poor. Now I prefer alcohol

You need to know who you are catering for....

We get dented silver cups for a year (dents are accumulation of "staggering home from prizegiving on the beer-moped damage") + plaque with BYC shield to keep. Winter series is BYC engraved glass tankards. Irish Multihull TT events are usually one-size-fits all hosting-club logo fleeces.

On the rare occasions I win anything it's nice to get a cup, if only to check all the engravings and see who won what in 1976. This year I won the "only cat to consistently race on Tuesday evenings" award but my 2 year old daughter thinks I am world champion. I may have misled her on that a bit.

We've decided to stick with bottles and a perpetual trophy for most open meetings, and sometimes plaques or glasses too. Good ideas wanted for us, too! For the end of year prizegiving, as well as the traditional dented trophy, we give a plaque with a list of all the trophies won by that person on it, rather than a plaque for each, as some mantlepieces/backs of drawers were getting a bit full.

My children, and 6 and 4, are still very impressed whan I get home with a bottle of wine or 2, even more so if I have a trophy too. Won't be long before they just go "yeah, OK" and go back to their computer games, so I'm milking it for all it is worth while it lasts!

We run the Marlow Ropes Trophy which unsurpsingy has as a prize a trophey and new set of ropes. Always thought this was a good idea because its a prize you can actually use.

Hey TT! Glad to see I inspired someone! Mind you, I am still so proud of those engraved glasses that say "4th Combined Harbour Regatta 1976" and such like.

If you are good, you get so much stuff, you want something practical. If you don't often win, you are really proud of every little cup.....believe me, I really know!!!!
