I'm looking to buy a centre-main rig for my Topper - any advice on type/brand/links to good ones???

Not sailed a topper for a good few years, but try and fing out what Topper use then buy as much as you can from a local chandlery, only buying the bits you can't get else where from Topper. I expect that it would be conderably cheepper to do it this way, allways was it the old days.

Get a complete kit from Sailing solutions or Rooster. Maybe a tad more expensive but a lot easier and reliable. dave cokerill at Sailing Solutions will  be happy to talk to you about the best way to go about it I'm sure.

Another vote for working out what you need and buying the parts seperately here... the markup on having the compontents put in a bag together and labeled 'a kit' is impressive.

Yep, ask Ben Austin, he got a centremain for his 15th birthday, a couple of years ago. He'll be happy to help you. Alternatively, sell your Topper and buy his boat, it's for sale!

thanks guys - ive looked at sailing-solutions and i think ill eother see how much it is for all components seperately or ask for it for christmas! (i dont have £100 to spare)

Heey. to be perfectly honest, the class rules are so stric as to where the blocks etc all should be that i would spend the few extra pounds and get a kit... Rooster, Sailing Solutions, Wet-Windy and all good for kits, ring any of them up and they're helpful. If you aren't bothered about the quality of blacks,  w & w do a very cheap method, not sold as a kit but with everything necessary, and uses the block from the transom, in the centre.

i sense some typical topper sailers here!!! the best way to do it is the D.I.Y way!!!! just look at someone elses boat, make a list of the bits you need and go buy the blocks bits of rope ect you need from a chandlery 'kits' are just a rip off!

kits are nothing like as expensive as buying your own blocks, then discovering they aren't class legal, and having to buy even more!

Depends whether you value your money or your time/ ease of purchase more. If you do buy kit separately, then make sure you inspect someone's boat who has a kit/ hasd been to the nationals where boats are measured for class legality.
