Bit of a begging letter this:

The wife and I are holidaying in Australia in late February/early March 07. We're planning on spending 5 or 6 days in Sydney. Kate (my missus) is planning on climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Personally, there is absolutely no bloody way you're getting me on that thing.

However, one of my lifelong dreams is to go sailing (preferably in something stupid) in Sydney harbour.

Can anyone help me beg, borrow or steal a ride on a lively dinghy around then? I'm sure I can return any favours for anyone coming over here at a later date

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer.

Cheers for the pointer, but I had something more like this in mind:

Get down to the Sydney Flying Squadron and you can probably get a race on a Historical 18. Google the Australian Historical Skiff Sailing Association and they may be able to help.

March is normally light winds; the sea breezes are getting light and the winter westerlies haven't arrived.

I have no idea where my own Canoe will be then; probably back in storage up the coast and the old Radial is hardly a "lively dinghy" for you to have a go on!

If you go to Woolhara Sailing Club in Rose Bay, you will find a friendly club with an active dinghy racing scene - loads of 29er/49ers and will almost always find someone looking for a crew. If big boats are your scene then 1/2 mile back towards the city at Rushcutters you will find the CYC where they are always looking for yacht crews on race days and the bar is great if you don't get  a ride!

You could also hop on a ferry and go to Manly Skiff Club to see who needs a crew.

I kinda think fizzicist was hoping one of you Aussies would step up to the mark and say "hey - come to blah blah and meet me and I will take you out or I will get you a ride on my mates boat" ...

Come on where is the forum hospitality?

Do both of you have Trap experience? PM me and we'll see what can be arranged

I did try to get Knightmare out for a sail on my 12, but all she got was a pub crawl and a bottle of red.
