... open meeting attendance?

With the ever increasing price of petrol and greater levels of road conjestion do you think people are doing less open meetings than 5 years ago?

Many people will make the once a year trip to the nationals and so the nats. attendance table would not pick this up ...

I guess you can also factor in changing lifestyles; longer working hours and time poor people into this equation.

Just wondered what people thought?

Rick

Not for me, sailing comes first and if you are serious about the sport another £5 in the tank is neither here nor there.

I must say I have noticed a huge increase in traffic though. I remember shooting down from Sheffield to Stokes Bay in three hours when I first started doing meetings ten years ago, now I always find the M3 down to Southampton resembles a car park on a Friday afternoon, no matter what time I set off.

I agree with jamie: if your serious about the sport it shouldnt change your comitment.

A lot of the opens and travellers events Im doing at the moment involve about a 1000-1200 mile round trip. At theat point the cost of petrol is less of a problam than sorting out the time off and trying not to turn up at the event completely knackered and just wanting to sleep

...yesterday I couldnt spell enginner...now I are one!......

I was under the impression we were talking about the rise in petrol prices, not rediculous petrol prices in general.
If an extra few pence per litre makes the differance between not being able to put a roof over your head and feed your family or not then maby you should tone down the sailing a little anyway as thats running a little close to the line for my tastes
