How not to break my ribs again

   im getting sick of cracking my ribs over the years , looking for best bouyancy aid that will also protect and allow trapezing , forward wip has been suggested , but incant see how it protects your sides which has been area of impact before bouncing off cat forestay and this sunday phantom gunwhale .

	I broke my ribs 2 years ago this coming easter and they are still giving me pain. When they are painful, I wear jetski type impact vest, when they are ok I wear Kayak type, not sure wether they would work for trapezing.

	2 years !thats bad , normally 4 weeks is long enough for pain to go , ive done them about 5 times over 35 years . Trapezing is important,i had thought of water ski etc , lot of straps to get caught up ,

	Zip up impact vest? 	As an aside. I always wear my trapeze harness over my BA, that way depth of BA matters less and access to hook is completely unhindered. As I use a very simple nappy style, the harness would cover any buckles if I did choose a messy ski style BA, an added benefit is the harness prevents the BA from riding up under my chin and I tell myself I could release and shake it off if worst came to worst.

	To avoid things catching I normally wear a spray top over the buoyancy aid. Only time I didn't recently while wearing a dry suite I managed to stuff the tiller through the shoulder straps as I swam out after pulling the boat over on top of me. Hope your ribs fix quickly. Gordon

	Impact vest here, always have and a helmet if it's puffy, use my kite board kit. It's definitely going to get some use with my new ride, the only problem will be marrying it up with a harness, not sure if the kite harness is going to cut it as a dinghy harness.

	I suspect a kite harness will not be secure enough, the hook on a dinghy trapeze harness needs to be as solid as possible. Unlike windsurfing the pull is from different directions depending on how high you are wiring.

	+1 for the spray top over the bouyancy aid tip, or rashy in summer. Keeps it all in place and that comes in handy when you are thrown at the shrowds, boom or front beam (delete as applicable). Pulled a muscle between my ribs walking the dog.. so defintely need to get back sailing!!
