Helensburgh Regatta

   Dennis,

Whats happened to the popularity of the Helensburgh Regatta over recent years?

Having won the slow handicap in 1986 in my dads Graduate, and been a fairly regular attendee during the 80's its sad to see that the event looks to be dwindling. I was going to bring my 49er up last year but work commitments meant that I couldnt get the week off, then this year having spent a couple of days catching up with family in Helensburgh, I couldnt afford to make a second trip up north of the border for the regatta.

The venue is awesome and is probably one of the best pieces of sailing water in the country so why has it all gone quiet?

	We didn't make it to the August Regatta, apparently the numbers were down. We made it to the Eatser Regatta though, which was an absolute blow it for most of the 49er sailors involved. About 6 or 7 turned up with many other skiff sailors involved, it was a real good turn out actually. The Easter Regatta was part of the Scottish Skiff series which has really taken off. Maybe the reason for the numbers being down was that there was a skiff event at another venue and the Cats now have their own seperate reggatta. Keep your eyes peeled for the Easter Reggatta, should be a real good turn out at that. Edited by 49erGBR735HSC
