AUSSIES 470'S WILL FIGHT FOR THEIR LEAD

by Isabelle Musy on 25 Sep 2000

Medal contention will more likely remains quite open until the very last
race as the 470 class is known for being most competitive with fluctuating
results race after race.

However, the current leaders will try to start breaking away even if the
task won't be easy.

World Champions Australia's Tom King and Mark Turnull have a tiny 3 points
lead over consistent Portugal's Marinho and Nunes. Currently world top
ranked, US Foerster and Merrick are not far behind.

It's even closer in the women's point's table. Australians Jenny Armstrong
and Belinda Stowell are leading their Ukrainians rivals Taran and Pakolchik
with only one point. The Japanese girls are only four points behind.
Basically its' still very open among at least the top ten.

None yet has managed to really break away from the other competitors.
Therefore racing should be most exciting and close today on the 470's
course. Especially with the wind probably being stronger than earlier on the
regattta.
