Kiwi's do well on Day 1 at the Steinlager Line 7 Cup

by Shawn McBride on 13 Mar 2001
Both Bertrand Pace and Cameron Appleton posted records of four wins and one loss
(4-1) in round robin action. Joining them at four wins and one loss are native New
Zealanders Chris Dickson, now sailing for the Oracle Racing Team, and Gavin Brady,
now sailing for the Prada Challenge. Team New Zealand skipper Dean Barker, finished
the day at three wins and one losses (3-1).
After a nearly three hour delay due to a lack of wind in Auckland's Viaduct Basin, the
Steinlager Line 7 Cup, the fourth event on the Swedish Match Grand Prix Sailing Tour,
got off to an exciting start. The day was marked by very close racing and taut matches
under partly cloudy skies.

Swedish Match Tour championship points leader Magnus Holmberg, sailing for Team
StoraEnso, finished the day at three wins and two losses.

Spanning the globe, the Swedish Match Grand Prix Sailing Tour is comprised of eight of
the world's leading professional sailing events and is proving to be the ultimate
battleground of sailing. In addition to over USD$400,000 in individual event prize money,
the Swedish Match Grand Prix Sailing Tour awards USD$200,000 to the top eight sailors
on the Tour. The overall winners are determined by a point system based on a sailor’s
best six of eight finishes, with the first-place skipper netting USD$60,000.
