Sydney Harbour 18 footers ..Results Heat 4

by Leigh Maloney on 25 Feb 2001
Michael Coxon's SUNDAY TELEGRAPH today took out the 4th Heat of the NSW
18-footers Championship on Sydney Harbour.

His first major win of the season, Coxon together with crew Aaron Links on
sheet and Christian Stevens at for'ardhand put in a consistent display of
light breeze sailing in the 8-10 knot Easterly, finishing 90 seconds ahead
of Matt Felton's MICROSOFT VISIO 2000 with OMEGA SMEG (Trevor Barnabas) in
third place.

After a reasonable start, the SUNDAY TELEGRAPH led at the first mark but
was feeling the pressure being applied by MICROSOFT.
'We were trying to get more urgency into what we were doing out there, and
it paid off,' said Coxon. 'MICROSOFT got close to us on the last beat,
but, as the ferry came through, we tacked off the ferry waves and used the
left-hand pressure to our advantage.'

The result puts SUNDAY TELEGRAPH within striking reach of John Harris' RAG
& FAMISH HOTEL which finished with a 5th in today's race. With two heats
remaining in the NSW Championship, Harris leads the overall points tally on
7.25, with Coxon's SUNDAY TELEGRAPH on 9.75 and Felton's MICROSOFT third on
13 points.
