Across the Equator But where’s the wind?

Across the Equator But where’s the wind?

Dateline. 07.00 GMT 18 January.

As their Polish rivals on Warta Polpharma were streaking ahead at 24knots, Tony Bullimore and his TEAM LEGATO crew
were left drumming the decks of their catamaran waiting for the promised South East Trade winds to kick in.

'Can you believe it' Tony said as they crossed the Line last night. 'We've had good winds for the last two or three days
and the right conditions to get us through the Doldrums and into the Southern Hemisphere, yet now we have light
headwinds and bumpy sea, a barometer that is showing 1011 Mb and grey skies!
Crossing the Equator was a new experience for half the crew. Some of the guys put together a crown and I played King
Neptune to initiate everybody. It was all good lighthearted fun.
Now, none of us can wait to get into the southern trade winds. We have a competition to guess when we are going to
overtake Warta Polpharma. The prize is a tin of pears soaked in a fine whiskey. Alcohol is not permitted on TEAM
LEGATO but we have got one bottle kept for medicinal purposes only. On this occasion we're bending the rules a little to
create a tasteful and amusing prize.'

Seafly Open at Blakeney
A superb weekend for the fleet on the north Norfolk coast At this time of year I am reminded of Stanley Holloway's famous monologue, "Albert and the Lion" which tells of a family visit to Blackpool seaside in which Albert is swallowed whole by a lion in the zoo... I'm sure some of you will recall it.
